Canadian artist Calvin Nicholls is a paper sculptor. Those two words hide so much more than they reveal.

Pat Leonard's essay about him in the Living Bird (December 2019) includes a short video on how he creates detailed low-relief sculptures. Leonard writes that Nicholls has "spent the last 30 years perfecting an unusual art form that is all about light, shadow, shape—and illusion." I'm sure you will agree that the result is, as Leonard observes "fantastically detailed birds and other animals that seem to leap, lean, or flutter straight out of their frames."

And here is a link to Nicholls's webpage which includes a short video of the creation of a holiday window (Christmas) and photographs.
