Dryland Farming Terraces

Earth Science Picture of the Day has two photographs with a short but very informative explanation of dryland farming in Israel.

Terracing, it is noted, allowed "more intensive annual cropping than would otherwise be possible." Otherwise seasonal crops were grown (cereals, legumes, pumpkins, etc.).

Short and well told. Another story of how humans adapted to a harsh environment and adapted it by consulting nature.
