The MacArthur Foundation has announced its 2018 MacArthur Fellows. The program is intended to encourage people of outstanding talent to pursue their inclinations. Recipients may be writers, scientists, artists, social scientists, humanists, teachers, entrepreneurs, or those in other fields, with or without institutional affiliations.

The awards are not for lifetime achievements, but rather an investment in potential. Each fellowship comes with a stipend of $625,000 to the recipient, paid out in equal quarterly installments over five years. The Foundation does not require any products or reports from MacArthur Fellows.

Selection criteria include exceptional creativity, promise for future accomplishments based on a record of significant achievements, and potential for the award to facilitate subsequent creative work.

The Class of 2018 MacArthur Fellows is introduced here. For each fellow there is a description of work, biography, photographs, and a short video.
